WHAT you're going???? And dude, how do you know what you'll be doing in June? That's like, almost a year away o_O but hmm, i just might have to ride on your socially-networked coattails and go in june too. no one wants to house me in london so far ;_;
my sister's graduating from st andrew's and we have some epic scotland trip in the works, but either before or after i am going to london for a few days because I WOULD BE STUPID NOT TO
i can't promise anything hahahahah BUT I WILL TRY
not that many people actually live in london
oh god i just like slipped in my socks on my own kitchen floor and skinned my knee. MY OWN FLOOR ATTACKED ME
maybe your apartment is cursed. maybe your bathroom will lock you inside and your stove will attack you with flames everytime you try and cook something. Oh wait, that's ours D:
ohhh more family trips. you guys are like the brady bunch! are you marsha? can i hit you with a football?
Umm... population of London. According to Government stats - Greater London had a population of - 7,556,900. In July 2007. More than 10% of our total population (approx 60 million).
You've just got to rely here on someone aeroport_art is friends living in London and being there during October. ;p
hahahaha that is one of the perks of being a freelancer. it's like, if you take vacation, NO ONE CAN STOP YOU. because you aren't getting paid for it. on the other hand, you aren't getting paid for it =_=
Yay! :D I would say try to hit up Bath and go see Stonehenge if you can, but if you're just going to London, that may not be possible. London has the best parks though :3 Ugh, I miss it. I was only there for a week with my family but it was amazing!
And yus, I love my icon! mangotrills has some of the best Star Trek art ever! I'm getting buttons from her soon.
I am ALSO trying to start watching Supernatural soon :O I have 4 seasons but NO TIME. So, it's a bit depressing.
maybe if you find a home for us ;__; i am not having any luck on that end. but otherwise, OF COURSE. we could rock london with our cool, non-english accents. or something.
ooooooooh maybe i can finally make it to one of your meetups!!!! that would be awesome *__* i was hoping to check out london since i've never been (and stay there for a few nights), but hey. i'm sure oxford's got some legs on it as well. thanks for the offer hon, i just might hit you up on it ;)
Hehe, well personally I would say that Oxford is WAY better than London but that's because I live here. ;p And having spent a year travelling to London would never live there. Still, London is so good for visiting.
In a less theoretical sense. That weekend, if you came down, I imagine that we would run into London early on the Saturday and do some of the touristy things. Then Saturday night I'm crashing with a friend in London, and a group of us from the London meets are going to watch Merlin and order pizza and generally squee. And then crash in London.
Then there's a meetup on Sunday afternoon with everyone from the London meets as normal. But we could also go be crazy and touristy in the morning.
Tourist things from London I reccomend. Paid - London Eye, Madame Tussaurds (waxworks), London Planetarium (though that's far down south), Westminster Abbey, Tower of London. Free - Tower Bridge, Covent Garden, seeing 10 Downing St, Big Ben Clock Tower, Canary Wharf, Cleopatras Needle, Natural History museum, V&A, Science Museum and the British Museum. Obviously not all, but London isn't doable in a long weekend. (Hell, there's one of those I haven't done and I've visited London a lot!)
For the rest of the time. Oxford does have it perks. (Hell, we get tourist groups of foreign students for like 2 months every summer. And they stay here.) I could show you Headington Shark. The Big Bang restaurant. (The food is awesome, but all it does is bangers and mash so you can be really English!)
There's also the Harry Potter tour they've started doing (a lot of it's filmed here, all the college bits.)
Also... http://www.visitoxford.org/
Or I could show you how to get into London on your own. (I have to work Tues, Wed, Thurs until December now, but I could take a long weekend.)
I don't have a sparebed, but can borrow the campbed from my parents - or at least the mattress and a sleeping bag (it's actually better without the frame. The frame creeks). And we have a spare room in the flat which you could take over for a few days. I'll check with Megan. And then I would inflict you with good old British TV. ;p
Just a thought. No pressure, but the offers there if you want it, ok? Plus, if you're there for a meet, I could introdue you to all of the LJ folks I know who live in London which would work for you if you ever come back!
Oh man. Honey. You are amazing. I'm positively salivating at the mouth with all these possibilities o_o
Also in a non-theoretical sense, I'm mainly looking for about a week-long vaca and my favorite things to do on those are exploring places on foot, FOOD, bars, and buildings buildings buildings. For example, out of the list above I'd love to check out Westminster Abbey, the big bang restaurant, and possibly the harry potter tour. I'm not a big museum goer D: In and ideal day I'd go from brunch to to cafe to dinner to a bar or pub, with lots of staring-at-buildings and light shopping in between.
As for the meet-ups, I'd LOVE to check one out! On the other hand, I'm super in the closet about fandom and get really cagey when in public with squeeing fangirls, so I dunno :x is it one of those affairs? I'M SHY. AND FEEL WEIRD TALKING ABOUT GAY PORN IN PUBLIC. Surely I'm not alone? ;_;
Anyway, this has some real possibilities now...THANKS, KIP.
Well the Big Bang and HP tour are in Oxford anyway! Non-museum goer is fine. Though I would probably drag you to look at Tower Bridge so when you see it in films (every US film ever shows England as a doubledecker red bus going over Tower Bridge! Or a lot of them do!)
There's definitely some shops I should show you. Not any clothes shops (except David and Goliath) cos I'm not a big clothes shopper, but there's some fun ones. Oxford is good for shopping. Most cities in England have the same big chains and then the older ones have some good individual shops too.
But that definitely sound doable in both London and Oxford. Though you might need the tube in London a bit more to get from place to place. Unless you really like walking!
Well the advantage of our meetups if you think about it, is you're SO far away from home, no-one you know is going to see you. And the night meetup would be in someone's house anyway. Which makes for quieter times. And it would just be fangirls. (I don't know if that helps, almost everyone I know knows I'm in fandom. Hell, my work mentor is a slasher!)
I'm about a 45 min direct train journey from London and you'd be welcome to stay. Only thing will be when in October. I'm on tour at some point round then.
I live in Tunbridge Wells, (Royal Tunbridge Wells to give it the proper name! It's a historic town in Kent with a direct rail link to central London, (I'm a 5 minute walk from the station). We're also a 45 minute drive from the coast in Brighton. There's lots of stuff around and about depending what you want to do!
Arrgh, so sorry, I'd definitely invite you to stay, but I live in a studio the size of a postage stamp (it even has only a tiny single bed). But would love to meet up at some point if you come over, just let me know!
haha studio the size of a postage stamp? I totally know what you mean. we're not really rolling in grand suites in nyc either =_=;; probably a blessing in disguise for you though, because dude i totally would've hit you up on that offer. no one else seems to live in london, just near it D:
Oh no! Well I am actually applying for a job in another city, but am kind of hoping I'll get an offer of an extended contract/payrise at my current place if I say I've been shortlisted...so if that happens I'm going to upgrade and hopefully get a decent size flat, maybe by Jan/Feb next year. So if that happens do ask again and I'll happily put you up!
oh man...don't tease me!!! and good luck on your contract extension (and NOT just because i might want to stay with you in london, hahaha). and gosh, maybe a pay raise too?? i don't think i know anyone in the states expecting a raise. But good for you. GO GET IM, TIGER.
Ah, long story - basically I was a researcher on a project (I work at a university) but am teaching now the project's finished for the remainder of my contract. If they keep me on they'd have to employ me as a lecturer which is on a higher salary. But they are very restricted budget-wise like everywhere else so it's by no means certain they'll do it, my boss is going to campaign for me though (yay!). So who knows what'll happen. But you can definitely stay if I do!!
Please come to London! I'd love to meet you for real. :) Alas, my house is small and not even really my house. If I find living with my parents this annoying I will not attempt to foist them on anyone else for an extended period. Besides, you'd have to sleep on a blow-up bed on my floor, so seriously not much fun or privacy. I can't wait to get a place of my own, dammit.
Let us know if the hypothetical becomes a reality!
hahaha it's sweet of you to sort of offer anyway XD And yeah, moving out is happy times. well you've got your internship now, right? you're totally on your way *__*
if i do find a place to crash, i will definitely be alerting you to the fact <3
