weekly round-up 5
Jan. 10th, 2009 04:40 pmIn snowing in New York. It's very pretty.
We ran out of coffee today and my roommate and I huddled together, pooling our change to buy grounds at the local shop (it's cash only). Felt like we were addicts, scrounging up money from who-knows-where just to go out in the snow and get our fix.
God, I love coffee.

Weekly Round-Up
Titles in bold are extra-recommended ♥
Sleeping Beauty by
miints (art)
Summary: PG, done for
charlotteschaos' fic "Sleeping Beauty"
Notes: Everything over at
miints' art comm
miinty_sticks is whimsical, delightful, and CUTE. I liked this one especially for its clean composition and lovely halftone-esque texture.
The Epic Tale of the Three Dubiously Wise Men by
lou_angel and
hils (PG, 5k)
Summary: Crack!fic crossover with Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter. Gandalf, Dumbledore, and Anhora plot to get Arthur and Merlin together.
Notes: Ahah!! Crackilicious. I love Dumbledore and Gandalf in this, their personalities are so much fun to revisit. There are humorous bits thrown in like the three of them having poker night or Dumbledore knitting. The boys are adorably clueless, too. It's a lot of fun.
Catboy!Merlin by
writteninhaste (NC-17, ~3k)
Summary: Merlin has a magical mishap and Arthur really likes the consequences.
Notes: I'll be the first to admit, this is fanservice pure and simple. Catboy!Merlin is totally fuzzy and CUTE and it's fun to read Arthur falling for him as well.
To Be Known by
sometimesophie (PG, ~3k)
Summary: So this is what it felt like to be normal. Merlin opens his eyes to the cool, shining metal of Arthur's unsheathed blade. "Sorcerer," Arthur spits. Arthur finds out about the magic. They deal.
Notes: I missed this before (it was posted early Dec) so it's not a new rec, per se. Still it's NOT TO BE MISSED.
sometimesophie is a veteran writer from the SPN fandom and her writing is sublime; the set-up for Arthur finding out about Merlin's magic is neat and interesting, while their reconciliation is appropriately difficult. The fic does so well providing a believable fall-out, propped up by wonderful, canonical characterization. Finally, the part where Arthur and Merlin have their requisite physical tussle--of the non-sexual variety, I'm afraid--is absolutely electric nonetheless.
The Kingdom of the Blaggers by
hackthis (NC-17, 23k)
Summary: "Merlin" featuring Entourage and some RPS. AU, Arthur moves to Los Angeles (leaving his boyfriend, Merlin, behind) in order to pursue an acting career without the overcast of his father's long shadow.
Notes: I didn't read this. As a fellow reader I obviously have my biases towards what genre of stories; that being said, I'm not a fan of established relationships, so I quickly lost interest in this story. It was extremely well-received, however, so who am I to deprive you guys a deserved recommendation?

Date: 2009-01-12 05:50 am (UTC)I dooo! I had to get some sort of rec thing going because the Arthur/Merlin ship is out of control (IN THE BEST WAY POSSIBLE). I can't wait to see what you cook up! And don't think of these recs as like, some snooty List, that's the last thing I want D: I'm just trying to share the luff as a fellow fangirl~~
