Maybe I'm missing something here, but am I the only one who--

--doesn't think Arthur drank the poison to save Merlin? I don't think he was even thinking about Merlin. What was really at stake was the fate of Camelot, so OF COURSE Arthur's gonna want to pass it by doing the obviously noble thing. He isn't drinking the poison to save his crush (yes, his crush, BECAUSE ARTHUR/MERLIN IS CANON), he's doing it to save Camelot.

Other people have noticed this right? I feel like I'm going crazy or something.

well, i'm not sure he is consious of it. you know? I knwo it was pretty obvious for everybody watching, but I'm not sure it was for arthur. he knows he is being tested, but he isn't sure about how or what. so, beside the slash fact that we all wanna see about him doing for merlin, i just think he did it because, you know, the cliche phrase "it was the right thing" but that's the way *i* see it. lool.

Oh, yes, this is the only option that went through my mind. For that matter, I think Merlin had the fate of more than just Arthur in his head as well. As much as they're, you know, OBVIOUSLY in love, this went beyond their relationship. So no, you're not crazy. Besides, there were plenty of otherwise slashy moments in that episode, so not having this be the ultimate declaration of love? Eh, I'm not worried.

okay, good to know i'm not crazy. because everyone's talking about how "homg arthur DIED FOR MERLIN" and i keep thinking "bzuh, i thought arthur died for camelot??" Not that it can't be both XD

I'm just getting caught up on this show, and really enjoying it. I agree completly, after all Arthur felt responsible for having brought the curse down on Camelot and his people, so of course he wouldn't let Merlin pay for his mistake by drinking the potion. I think as far as Arthur was concerned, it was his mistake to rectify, so he was the only one that could drink, to restore both his honour and save his people. I think Merlin wasn't even in his mind in that sense, (even though he does clearly love him!)
