Oh trust me, they have. There's apparently a huge gay following for the show here in the UK, and the writers and cast are well aware of it, and by now, probably playing to it. Pretty obvious after this episode and all the eyefucking, anyway. And Madonna, I mean Morgana, is their fag-hag, lol.
Eh? I'm not sure what you're talking about. The papers here said the stuff about the gay following (so of course, if it's in the papers, it must be true... ) What did you hear?
We were at a con, and someone asked Bradley James and Colin Morgan if Merlin and Arthur were gay for each other. ;p
Since I know a fair number of gay folks (being one, and being relatively involved in certain scene parts of it), I only know one other gay person that actually watches Merlin. Most of them seem to be straight girls. ;p
But yeah, I read that article too. Without knowing how they did their "research" I reckon they confused, "people that want to see the boys gay" as "gay people watching the show".
Aaah, thanks for the clarification. None of my gay friends watch the show either, actually! But you're right, the papers wouldn't make a distinction between the type of viewer, and they probably wouldn't mention slash, either, although I was astonished to see The Metro do an article on it recently.
And I can't believe how rude/stupid people at cons can be. Seriously, they have no social filters. Guh!
Hehe, no problem. I may be wrong. I've not gone around asking people, and since 5.75 million people watch it every week, I'm sure some are gay, but I'm just not convinced it's a huge gay following.
Big slash following though. ;p But they're just asking for that!!
I know. There was just a collective *facepalm* from everyone else.
oooh, good pimpage because I hadn't heard of the comm yet, and I now CANNOT WAIT for this challenge to take place. Unfortuantely, I don't have the time to contribute any sort of AUs right now D: I usually get into them only after the canonical possibilities have been explored, and so the story I'm writing right now is going to get all of my attention (which, as it is, is pretty disjointed and paltry). reel_merlin sounds awesome though. Maybe next year :O
