Regarding the bigbang reviews I posted:

I've f-locked em for the time being because i'd prefer not to rouse any wank, as far removed as my intentions are of hurting anyone's feelings. on the other hand, i really wanna share the reviews (they were a bitch to code :0)...so, hence the poll. you think our fandom's got tough enough skin to see this post unlocked, provided i put up a little "read at your own risk" sign, or should i just leave it as is?

[Poll #1282943]

in other news, i'm about to go get a wisdom tooth extracted...egghhh. got the first two yanked last week and it was HORRIBLE. could hear the crunching and feel the sewing and crying all over the place, just...*facefault* wish me luuuck.

Good luck with the wisdom tooth. I hope it's not that awful again. :(

shanks. luckily there was no surgery required this time--the plain, no-frills yanking of the tooth is no big deal. all that's left to do is to chug these wimpo advils they gave me :O

I chose the first option because I'm of the opinion that if you can't post an honest review on the internet, where can you? But wank of any kind tends to surprise me, so maybe I'm naive. *G*

Luck with the tooth extraction! I have to get mine done soon; thanks for adding to my anxiety! ;P

eeek, sorry to add to your anxiety! the teeth that didn't need surgery were FINE (like today's). it's just the breaking and stitching that made me freak out, and if you're getting put under then you have nooothing to worry about :) My cheeks didn't even swell up at all.

Sorry about the wisdom tooth. Though they did all four of mine at once, and put me out for it. I remember nothing of the surgery, and no major pain before or afterward. Maybe they'll do better for you this time?

So, I went and peeked at the reviews, which _I_ found very useful. But I suspect friends-lock might be the way to go. Part of the problem, I think, is that even though poor quality of writing is absolutely a reason I would want to think about skipping a fic... when you put it in those words with an author's name next to it, I think the person and her friends are going to freak.

Funny to find someone else with a major Het squick! Some of the stories that wound up in the Supernatural Slash Anthology had major Het along with the Sam/Dean, and ewwww! I was not prepared. Personally, girl!Sam or girl!Dean as a whole is a genre I generally don't care for (with occasional outstanding exceptions), and for me... at that point it's Het, so ewwww again.

The dislike of established relationships is such a personal thing too. I love first times, but in this fandom I also like the established stuff too. You're very fair about it and iterate that it colors your views, and reviews really can't be objective (they're opinion-based!), but yet... people always expect that they will be. Obvious bias tends to hack people off, even though it can be really helpful. When you know the reviewer's bias (and there will always be one), you can interpret how that works against your own biases.

Um... sorry to ramble. I did movie reviews for a couple of years for a weekly newspaper in Sac, and I'm really familiar with reviews and how people respond to them. :0

*hijacks your post*

It's funny how I used to really enjoy het, and now even with pairings I actually like I just have no interest reading it. And when it comes to my own OTPs, it actually does squick me to read one or both of them paired with a girl. All male threesome? Awesome. Threesome involving a woman? No no no. I also really never understood genderswap. At all. What's the point? Unless, of course, you like het/femslash and want to read Wincest with girl parts, but for me, I just don't get it, especially as so much of the appeal of Dean/Sam, for example, is the fact that they're two guys (the emotional appeal, I mean, in addition to simply the superficial appeal of two guys being hot).

Also, happy (very belated) birthday! Sorry I haven't said it sooner, but I hope it was a good one. Wish I could get something written for you, but my Supernatural and Prison Break muses seem to have moved on to greener pastures :/

Exactly. It often seems more of an opportunity to do Het Wincest than anything, and I just don't get that. The fact that they're both guys is utterly hot to me, but also... they're themselves. Girl!Dean or Girl!Sam? I'm generally not interested in figuring out if they still seem like themselves at that point. It's just extra work, you know?

It was, and all wishes are very much appreciated, with or without ficlets!

Do you know about the Fall Fandom Free-For-All? I mentioned it again in one of yesterday's posts. There's a person on the list of "no offers yet" who requested some Verbotene Liebe slash, and that might inspire you. :)

I did check it out yesterday, thanks for pointing it out. Lots of good stuff just on the "no offers" list. There's a couple of things that I bookmarked to try and write something for from that list, and I'm going to look through the rest of the list sometime tonight or tomorrow.

Eeee I'm so happy you found the reviews useful!! That's all I wanted to do, because as I reader I know I'd totally appreciate some tough love reviews. Makes it easier to sift through the 100+ fics in big bang, at any rate. Plus, doesn't hurt that you wrote reviews professionally before :O I feel validated.

Funny to find someone else with a major Het squick!
Yaay! I'm glad you unnerstand *___* I always feel like such a lame-o for getting grossed out by het, but there it is.

You're very fair about it and iterate that it colors your views
Whew, I'm glad the giant bias disclaimer worked out. I know personally when I'm keeping up with politics and the news, I'm always skeptical of ostensibly "objective" sources (ie CBS, CNN). I'll listen to them for headlines and such, but when I'm formulating opinions I prefer to listen to multiple pundits with obvious biases--you know what you're getting with them, and it's easier to decide where you stand in relation to their opinions. I kept this in mind when I typed these reviews up; if the readers know what they're getting with me, then they can decide on their own how much they'll agree with a recommendation of mine or not.

Now it's my turn to apologize for rambling! Haha.

Ooh good luck with the teeth! Though the crunching sound they make when extracted is really kind of fascinating, in a morbid way. I fell down the stairs a couple of months ago and smashed a tooth, and had to have it extracted and the sound was just... it just stuck with me.

That's what everyone else said D: They were all like "ehh it doesn't hurt, it's just kind of interesting. sounds like they're excavating." but I skipped the "interesting" part and went straight to the crying =_= I'm such a baby...boohoohoo.

Hmm, I'm really not sure. I really liked reading your reviews, they were very well thought out and useful. It is nice, as an objective reader, to read really honest reviews and what stories did and didn't work for you. But considering how easily this fandom falls into wank, I don't think fandom's skin is that tough. I really want to say you should just go ahead and do it, but I wouldn't want it to come back on you.

With a cautionary note it might go over okay, though.

I'm just popping useless Advils like they're candy and trying to make sure no food is hibernating inside my gums (gross), but they're fine now!!! I'm thinking no pain at all within a couple days. I'm glad the worst is over, WHEW.

As for the reviews, I'm so glad you found them useful ;__; that's all I wanted!! I think I'm gonna just repost the higher categories as a rec list and then like, in fine print, point people towards the reviews in case they want 'em. I know personally I'd love to see some, as both a reader AND a writer (because you totally know by now, i luuuurve me some concrit).
