THANK YOUs
Wow. I can't believe I'm actually here. After incubating and nurturing this story for over nine months--researching and thinking about it in my free time, whether at the library or zoning out at work--it feels a bit like GIVING BIRTH (ew).
...and last but not least, I have to thank Keith, even though he's NEVER EVER going to read this (because I adamantly refuse to let him know that his little sister-in-law is perverting all his help into gay, incestuous porn). Y'all can thank him for the accuracies of Sam, Ava, and John's residences, as well as the location for the Brady-Gough wedding reception and the site for the showdown, at Sweeney's Observatory. He was basically my beta for historical accuracy, he just didn't know it :0
Me: "Where would a bachelor, maybe a lawyer, live in 1910?"
K: "Hayes Vaelly would be good. He could work downtown."
Me: "What's a cool spooky place that would've been ruined by the earthquake, but maybe stuck around?"
K: "Try Sweeney's Observatory."
Me: "Where would an affluent family live?"
K: "Oooh, Pacific Heights. I worked on restoring a house there. Here are the blueprints, and let me tell you everything you need to know about this building, and more." [slightly paraphrased]
Me: "Where did people have weddings?" "What was this area *points to map* like in 1910?" "Was Oakland ghetto?"
and so on, and so forth. I only wish I didn't write such creepy things, because I want him to read it!! *sigh* Oh well.
And in Conclusion
I'm gonna miss this sucker. After studying the language and the historical setting for so long, I'm going to miss it. There's so much more of San Francisco I want to explore, and so much more of this time frame I didn't get to include. But alas, what can I do? Time to join the present again, I guess :D
Thanks for reading, guys.
xoxo

Date: 2008-07-12 08:09 am (UTC)You know I really enjoyed this AU with all the sense of place and time (and footnotes! So cool!) *g*
The confrontation at the Observatory was Awesome! I loved the fact that Azazel sounded just like his modern seductive evil self, and the confrontation with him in Dean's body was brilliant (not to mention hot)!
I really liked the later sections of Dean's POV, and the change in language you used for him. The startling hush before Tetrazzini sings, and Sam finds Dean, then the passion of the following scene were very effective (and great use of the historical event). The use of the final telegram was a pretty cool conceit, too *g*
Finally, the story looks great, with all your hard work coding and formatting. I hope you got some sleep *g*
Eta for spelling *g*

Date: 2008-07-12 10:21 pm (UTC)This story was sooo good! I loved it so much, the originality of it, how you twisted elements of cannon to fit the story, I was sad to see it end :(
Awesome!!!!!!!

Date: 2008-07-13 09:45 pm (UTC)I read this in a few hours and could not put it down (I read it on my phone so it was in my tight grip at all times). I can't say enough good things. The footnotes really add realism to the story and are a great tool to familiarize your readers with some of the historical elements they may not be as familiar with. I have to admit I didn't know a whole lot about the west coast at that point in time. I was aware of the earthquake and the families and people moving in to start anew, but other than that, I was pretty clueless. Even if it is not 100% accurate, I have learned a lot, and I love that you painted people who lived so long ago as being human, because they are! Your betas also did an awesome job, because the grammar was flawless, and everything flowed well. I hope that you are extremely proud of this, because you deserve to be! Your story is fantastic and will definitely be going into my favorites (or must read again and again) file.
Once again, awesome job! :)

Hahaha, this made me chuckle. Don't strain yourself, dear!
I hope that you are extremely proud of this
I am, I really am *_* I'm so glad it all came together at the end, because there were totally enough obstacles to keep me from finishing it.
Thanks again for your comments! *hugs them*

Date: 2008-07-14 06:00 pm (UTC)YOU READ THE FOOTNOTES! \o/
This story is so unusual for me in that usually I like meaty, discussion-y questions about the content, but this time I'm just like. I want everyone else to fall in love with San Francisco and that time period like I did, and the story? Well, if people liked it, that's an added bonus XD So yeah, it makes me so, so happy to hear people appreciated the footnotes.
xoxothanks darling~

Date: 2008-07-15 07:20 am (UTC)Everything about it is so... so... gorgeous. And, I'm just gonna say gorgeous a couple of hundred more times because apparently Historical!Sam&Dean have stolen my words. From the setting, the plot, the flow, so lyrical and graceful and gorgeous!
And also, you really really lucked out on the artist side of the Big Bang. The art is simply awesome. And gorgeous.
I love everything about it, the colors, the detail, how well everything fit the story.
Also, gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.
And icon!Jensen needs a cigarette because, yes, gorgeous.
