THANK YOUs

Wow. I can't believe I'm actually here. After incubating and nurturing this story for over nine months--researching and thinking about it in my free time, whether at the library or zoning out at work--it feels a bit like GIVING BIRTH (ew).

[livejournal.com profile] mooyoo, THANK YOU for encouraging me to do something this retardedly huge and life-consuming. I was way too scared to even try this like, fandom thesis all on my lonesome.

[livejournal.com profile] minimoue, THANK YOU for being a dream of a beta. You're QUICKLIKELIGHTNING and you totally saved me from sounding like an asshole on some of that old language phrasing.

[livejournal.com profile] lavendervamp, THANK YOU for being an exceptionally quick beta as well. You totally called my attention to the problems with the language, so even though I kind of cranked it up as opposed to toning it down as you'd suggested, I hope a) it's a bit more consistent now and b) you'll forgive me :] You've been a great help.

[livejournal.com profile] keepaofthecheez, THANK YOU for pointing out stuff nobody else did. You took a completely different approach to the art of proofreading and for that I REALLY REALLY thank you. I hope my last-minute tweaks iron out a few of the things you addressed, if only minutely :O

[livejournal.com profile] leyna55, THANK YOU because honestly? I could NOT have been luckier landing you as my artist! I had such a blast nerding out over the clothing with you, hahaha. Your art is amazing-amazing.

...and last but not least, I have to thank Keith, even though he's NEVER EVER going to read this (because I adamantly refuse to let him know that his little sister-in-law is perverting all his help into gay, incestuous porn). Y'all can thank him for the accuracies of Sam, Ava, and John's residences, as well as the location for the Brady-Gough wedding reception and the site for the showdown, at Sweeney's Observatory. He was basically my beta for historical accuracy, he just didn't know it :0

Me: "Where would a bachelor, maybe a lawyer, live in 1910?"
K: "Hayes Vaelly would be good. He could work downtown."

Me: "What's a cool spooky place that would've been ruined by the earthquake, but maybe stuck around?"
K: "Try Sweeney's Observatory."

Me: "Where would an affluent family live?"
K: "Oooh, Pacific Heights. I worked on restoring a house there. Here are the blueprints, and let me tell you everything you need to know about this building, and more." [slightly paraphrased]

Me: "Where did people have weddings?" "What was this area *points to map* like in 1910?" "Was Oakland ghetto?"

and so on, and so forth. I only wish I didn't write such creepy things, because I want him to read it!! *sigh* Oh well.

And in Conclusion

I'm gonna miss this sucker. After studying the language and the historical setting for so long, I'm going to miss it. There's so much more of San Francisco I want to explore, and so much more of this time frame I didn't get to include. But alas, what can I do? Time to join the present again, I guess :D

Thanks for reading, guys.

xoxo

Wheeee!
You know I really enjoyed this AU with all the sense of place and time (and footnotes! So cool!) *g*
The confrontation at the Observatory was Awesome! I loved the fact that Azazel sounded just like his modern seductive evil self, and the confrontation with him in Dean's body was brilliant (not to mention hot)!

I really liked the later sections of Dean's POV, and the change in language you used for him. The startling hush before Tetrazzini sings, and Sam finds Dean, then the passion of the following scene were very effective (and great use of the historical event). The use of the final telegram was a pretty cool conceit, too *g*

Finally, the story looks great, with all your hard work coding and formatting. I hope you got some sleep *g*

Eta for spelling *g*

N'aww...your comments are all so sweet, darlin'!! I LOVE that you enjoyed the footnotes and research, because honestly? I'd rather ten people get my motivations for the story than fifty people just read it for the smexing.

I love it! I love the tweaks you've made to the final version, they make it even more cohesive as a piece. Just amazing work and you should be proud of yourself. Not get some rest before you start the next magnum opus! ;-)

This was so well researched and the characterization was so well done...I loved your writing!!!!

This story was sooo good! I loved it so much, the originality of it, how you twisted elements of cannon to fit the story, I was sad to see it end :(

Awesome!!!!!!!

Eeee I'm SO happy you indulged me and took a look at all the research stuff! Seriously, I think I put more heart and soul into that than the actual story itself, so it means a lot that some readers were interested. Thank you!!

This was amazing, wonderful, brilliant! I cannot gush enough. From the moment I landed at the table of contents in your journal, read the synopsis and saw the art, I was hooked. I absolutely adore historical fiction, but it takes a special topic to really draw me in, and you've more than successfully done that. It is clear you researched even the minutest of details, from the language of the time (which you made seem effortless) to the locations and the characterizations. And of course, even though this is AU, I think you pegged the Winchesters for all they are. Honestly, the way you wrote Dean stood out to me. I loved how informal he was from the beginning. The brothers' altercation in the alcove by the phone was perfect... The way Dean reacted by saying something like "Calm down" really got me, because Sam really is one to fly off the proverbial handle all too often.

I read this in a few hours and could not put it down (I read it on my phone so it was in my tight grip at all times). I can't say enough good things. The footnotes really add realism to the story and are a great tool to familiarize your readers with some of the historical elements they may not be as familiar with. I have to admit I didn't know a whole lot about the west coast at that point in time. I was aware of the earthquake and the families and people moving in to start anew, but other than that, I was pretty clueless. Even if it is not 100% accurate, I have learned a lot, and I love that you painted people who lived so long ago as being human, because they are! Your betas also did an awesome job, because the grammar was flawless, and everything flowed well. I hope that you are extremely proud of this, because you deserve to be! Your story is fantastic and will definitely be going into my favorites (or must read again and again) file.

Once again, awesome job! :)

Wow, gosh. I don't even know what to say to such amazing feedback. I'm so happy you looked at the footnotes *__* The whole time I was coding them, I was like "boo, what if I'm the only one who will ever click on these links?" so THANK YOU for that.

I read it on my phone so it was in my tight grip at all times
Hahaha, this made me chuckle. Don't strain yourself, dear!

I hope that you are extremely proud of this
I am, I really am *_* I'm so glad it all came together at the end, because there were totally enough obstacles to keep me from finishing it.

Thanks again for your comments! *hugs them*

Oh, this is so absolutely excellent. The wording was perfect and beautiful, and throughout the entire fic, the atmosphere created felt 100% accurate for the time period. Which, damn, I can't even imagine the effort you must have put in to get all the little details figured out for this. The footnotes were fascinating to me, actually, because I'm a geek like that, and once again I'm blown away by how much research you must've done to make this so stunningly realistic. It makes it SO SO GOOD. I mean, I'm sure you could've written a brilliant, awesome B!B without all the smaller, everyday details, but when those do show up in a story, especially a historical AU like this one, it just makes all the difference. I was totally, truly immeresed in the culture of the day, in the very feel of the world you transported your readers to.
Wow. Just. Bravo, bb. This is absolutely masterful.

YOU READ THE FOOTNOTES! \o/

This story is so unusual for me in that usually I like meaty, discussion-y questions about the content, but this time I'm just like. I want everyone else to fall in love with San Francisco and that time period like I did, and the story? Well, if people liked it, that's an added bonus XD So yeah, it makes me so, so happy to hear people appreciated the footnotes.

xoxothanks darling~

This may very well be the most gorgeous thing I've read. Ever.

Everything about it is so... so... gorgeous. And, I'm just gonna say gorgeous a couple of hundred more times because apparently Historical!Sam&Dean have stolen my words. From the setting, the plot, the flow, so lyrical and graceful and gorgeous!

And also, you really really lucked out on the artist side of the Big Bang. The art is simply awesome. And gorgeous.
I love everything about it, the colors, the detail, how well everything fit the story.

Also, gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous gorgeous.

And icon!Jensen needs a cigarette because, yes, gorgeous.

This was an absolute joy to read :) It felt like I was really there, experiencing Victorian-era San Francisco, with all the incredible attention to detail -- speech, food, clothing, language. I loved the slow-building "romance" between Sam and Dean (instant attraction, YUM). The confrontation in the Observatory was incredible. Creepy, OMG. *shivers*

Well done! It's obvious you put a ton of effort into this. Be proud of it, because it's fantastic :)

Very, very awesome fic. I actually saw the artwork first, then did a search to find the fic it went to. I think I would have enjoyed it even if it hadn't been starring the Winchesters. heh.
