So, a lot of people, including myself, have been saying in episode reviews that we miss the good old Sam-Dean-adventuring of yore. No Ruby, no Bobby, no idiot hunters (I think
Only, it's also pretty well-known that Jensen and Jared are pretty cranky about their f-ed up schedules--fifteen hour days, five days a week--so on one hand, I wish we could keep that in mind while we diss the show for throwing new faces at us and splitting the boys up (although, is it too much to ask for a new character that doesn't suck or die?). On the other hand, I WANT MY SHOW BACK.
I wonder how Kripke co.'s planning on resolving this problem? Because it is a problem, if season three continues like this. *drums fingers*

Date: 2007-10-26 11:28 pm (UTC)Word. Can't they like, thin the appearances of say Ruby, or even Bobby, and then donate those funds to J2? Maybe then they'll stop hating their schedules so much when they realize they can retire before 30 :D Or something. Whatever. MORE SAMDEAN PLEASE.
Btw I like your pumpkin icon (the owl!)! It's purty *_*

Date: 2007-10-26 11:27 pm (UTC)The show's appeal was its Sam&Dean factor. Isn't that obvious to the powers that be? And I know the boys are tired, but maybe what they really needed to do was extend the filming season by a few weeks - one extra day of filming per episode would be an additional 22 days in a year. I know it would increase the budget, but really, three weeks over the course of 8 or 9 months?
Also, they could devote more screen time to the other characters without splitting up the brothers. That would be tricky, I guess, but it could be done properly if they just tried. Not by creating additional storylines, but by showing how the other characters fit into the main story but in time spent away from the brothers.
Those are just some ideas, but shit, the powers that be should be able to figure this shit out. It's their fucking job.
And honestly? I know it's mean and all, but lots of people work 15 hour days for way less money at jobs that are no fun whatsoever. So yeah, I kind of want to tell them to suck it up. I know, I know, I'm a bitch. :p
Wow, apparently I'm just in a really bad mood right now. Oh well, I stand by my general opinions, for the moment anyway.

Date: 2007-10-26 11:32 pm (UTC)Oh my god, me too. Like, I'm scared to actually say so b/c a) fan backlash and b) dude, I know I'd be complaining to anybody who'll listen if I was working those kind of hours, but truthfully? They're starting to sound whiny (did you see Jensen's last interview (http://www.tvguide.com/news/supernatural-jensen-ackles/071026-01)?). I feel awful for the boys and something should be done, but like you said, it's their job to figure this shit out without it affecting the quality of the show.

Date: 2007-10-27 12:18 am (UTC)I know, I know, I'm ranting. And I'm not angry or disgusted with the boys, but work is often unpleasant and I feel they need to find ways to deal with it that don't make the show suffer, because ultimately that will just be worse for them.
Okay, I'll shut up now.

Date: 2007-10-27 02:47 am (UTC)I feel like an ass complaining about not enough SamandDean time when these guys are working such hellish days, but I'm finding it harder and harder to sympathize, especially when, as you point out, many people work tough jobs for far less money and the same amount of hours or more.
In addition, I have to echo what
It's not like this is the first show in the history of television to rely on a very small cast, and not even the first action show to have only a couple of characters, and I don't really ever remembering hearing quite the same amount of consternation over the situation - The X-Files was on for years with usually only the two characters, and they managed to make it work for the most part.
There's got to be some way to work out a better filming schedule, and it's frustrating that all they seem to have come up with is seperating the boys for most of every episode. I can understand once in a while, but the lack of SamandDean is yet another thing for me that is really lacking this season.
