dude, you go to university of edinburgh?? i'm curious--how's the nightlife there? i'm a huge homebody, but on the weekends i like to get down ;) i've heard so many amazing things about the city, i could not be more thrilled to be moving.

Er, I'm really not the best person to ask. xD What I've heard from other people suggests it's good but I guess it would depend what you're interested in? (The gay scene sucks but I don't know if that would bother you. :P)

Hmm I like all sorts of nightlife :) Cocktail bars if they aren't pretentious. Pubs with good beers on tap. When I go dancing, I like indie venues. A half-filled room playing Daft Punk appeals to me more than a packed room full of girls in short skirts and 4" heels. I do love a good LGBT scene (in fact I'm going to a gay club tonight, haha) but it's not a deal-breaker for me.

I've been looking stuff up on the Internets! Any of these places good? The Bramble, Cumberland Bar, The Regent, Jekyll & Hyde

I must admit that I have never actually been to any of those places. xD Most of my socialising tends to get done either in the student union bars or at flat parties. I'm really not a very good student!

Student union bars? That's sounds like such an oxymoron to me, haha. No drinking allowed on campus in stodgy American universities :P Does this mean you're in undergrad? Oh, youth. That makes me feel old!

There are... *counts* at least seven student union bars on or around campus. I think there may be another one on the sciences campus but I've never been down there. xD So it's pretty easy to only hang out there! We have the oldest custom-built student union in europe and it has a moose. :D

And yeah, I'm a third year undergrad. :3

That's brilliant. You're brilliant.

My sister, also a textile artist, used to support herself by working in a knitting shop in Edinburgh and loved it there. I used to love visiting her, mostly for the city! Because she's weird, she now prefers to live in a tiny village of about 40 people in Teesdale, drives miles to teach textile design in Hartlepool and Middlesbrough and runs her own web-based company (Stitch Arena) in her non-existent spare time.

You will have enormous fun there. It's a beautiful city.
