- Harry Potter series by J.K. Rowling (for obvious reasons)
- House of Leaves by Mark Z. Danielewski (because it showed me how to think outside the box)
- The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins (because it gave me a voice I didn't realize was missing)

- Sweet Valley Twins series created by Francine Pascal (because it painted an idyllic picture of how I was supposed to grow up as a young, American girl, even if I didn't wind up following much of it)
- Krapp's Last Tape by Samuel Beckett (because it haunts me)
- In a Grove by Akutagawa Ryunosuke (because its essential moral--that there is no one truth--resonated)
